Indiana Caverns joins the international celebration of bats during Bat Week with a special day of events open to all on October 25th from 9 am to 4:30 pm. Bat Week is an annual and international celebration that raises awareness of the need for bat conservation. Bats are amazing mammals which are vital for the health of our natural environment as well as the economy. Bats are hard at work each night eating tons of insects, pollinating flowering plants and dispersing seeds.
A variety of family friendly activities will be available when the cave opens at 9, as well as tours and discounted Bat Chaser tickets. Activities include a Bat Scavenger Hunt and an activity area with crafts, displays and booths as well as fun photo ops.
Booths open at 10 including foods, crafts and family friendly activities. A wide variety of food trucks will also be on site and open at 10 am including coffee, lemonade and dirty sodas, sweets and desserts as well as chicken and dumplings, pulled pork and more. Booths and food trucks are open until 4 pm.
At 1 pm a special program “Batty about Bats” will be presented by Second Chances Wildlife Center, featuring live bats that are part of their permanent resident bats.
For those interested in exploring caves, Harrison-Crawford Grotto of the National Speleological Society will be sharing information on cave exploring as well as bats and other cave inhabitants.
