This past fall, the Riley Arts Trail officially opened to the public, offering a delightful new way to explore downtown Greenfield. This scenic 0.7-mile pathway weaves through the heart of the city, celebrating its rich arts, architecture, and literary heritage. As you stroll along the widened sidewalk, you’ll discover beautifully inscribed verses from the beloved Hoosier Poet, James Whitcomb Riley.

Along the trail, charming “story stops” invite you to learn more about Riley, other notable Greenfield artists and writers, the area’s unique architecture, and even today’s creative community. You’ll also find stunning hand-carved limestone blocks created by talented sculptor Cheryl Ann Lorance—true works of art in their own right.
The Riley Arts Trail links to the Pennsy Trail at two points, guiding visitors through some of the most picturesque and inviting corners of Greenfield.
