Maybe you’ve already been to Journeyman at the American Factory in Valparaiso. Perhaps you’ve taken a tour and enjoyed a tasting of their organic spirits, had dinner at the family-friendly Union Hall or come to a wedding or holiday party here.
But did you know that on top of everything else they do the folks here also host special events that run throughout the year? “Summer Music Live” on the courtyard stage, for example, features local musicians performing Wednesdays and Fridays through August. Bring the whole family since there will be lawn games to keep the children entertained while their parents enjoy the music alfresco.

When the season begins to change, so does the vibe. In October look for Oktoberfest, a daylong autumn festival that features a German buffet and all that implies: schnitzels, wursts, potatoes, pretzels and craft beers from Sea of Monsters Brewery. That will be followed by a Halloween Dance Party — a grown-up version of trick-or-treat complete with DJs, cocktails and prizes.
November will bring the Artisan Market, where holiday shopping will be the order of the day. At this time some 75 Midwest makers will assemble to sell their wares — home goods, clothing, jewelry and art plus much, much more. The craftsmanship and ambience of the industrial building plus a crafted cocktail along the way make for a week’s worth of winter pleasure.

Once the holiday season is in full swing, mark your calendar for the Santa Brunch with cookie-decorating for the kids and a photo with St. Nick to take home as a memento. Then laugh away your post-holiday blues at the hilarious “Comedy on the Rocks,” perfect for an adult night out.
Before you know it the last day of the year will be here, and Journeyman has you covered for that, as well. This is the place to come for dancing, party favors and a midnight toast as you welcome the new year.
Tours of the building continue year-round, as do the weekend brunches. On Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the menu also includes such items as French toast, breakfast burritos and the Hangover Hamburger. Enjoy those and other specialties along with a $5 bloody Mary or mimosa.
