All February long, explore the Heartland Handmade Chocolate Trail where locally owned shops celebrate chocolate in all its deliciously sweet forms. From chocolate donuts, chocolate popcorn, chocolate sundaes, chocolate candles, even books about chocolate, you’ll discover delightful chocolate bites, treats, and handcrafted goodness along the way.
You won’t buy just any box of chocolate on this confectionery tour; you’ll fill your own! By visiting 16 local shops, you’ll pick up a single handmade chocolate candy from each stop. Plus, you’ll discover free samples, mini bite-sized treats, and get the chance to make your own chocolate sweet at additional businesses along the way.

With your Heartland Handmade Chocolate Trail Box and map in hand, the tour will take you to Shipshewana and Middlebury, Indiana, the third largest Amish community in the USA. Stores include the Victorian Candy Company where you’ll sample and see homemade fudge being made. Aunt Millie’s Candy Company offers hundreds of candy flavors, chocolates, and you can watch them make treats, too! Discover handcrafted chocolates from Naomi’s Candies, created by
local chocolatier Naomi in her licensed family home kitchen.
In between stops, enjoy a meal at the Blue Gate Restaurant where you’ll find chocolate pie and cookies for dessert. Then enjoy one of the 500 live shows a year such as an Amish musical or concert at Indiana’s #1 most visited theater, the Blue Gate Theatre! Don’t forget a buggy ride with Shipshewana Buggy Rides! Sip on hot cocoa at Kitchen Cupboard, Das Kaffee Haus, or Fawn River + Morton and wrap up the evening to enjoy your chocolates by booking your room at the cozy Blue Gate Garden Inn, Farmstead Inn or local Airbnb.
