Maybe after years of giving Dad ties he’ll never wear and gadgets he’ll never use for Father’s Day, this time you get creative and present a new experience that he’s sure to love. Whatever his interests, Pulaski County offers events and activities he won’t soon forget.
If he’s an outdoors kind of guy, you can find plenty for him to do here. The Tippecanoe River State Park is the place for camping, canoeing, kayaking and floating. A great hiking spot is the 220-mile Panhandle Pathway, a rails-to-trails conversion of the former Pennsylvania Railroad Panhandle. The Winamac Fish & Wildlife Area will be perfect if he prefers fishing and target-shooting, or take him to the Jasper-Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area for bird-watching and hunting.

Gearheads will love spending time at the World of Motorcycles Museum with its more than 100 models of vintage motorcycles and lots of memorabilia. Or surprise your pop or father figure with tickets to the Shadyhill Speedway in Medaryville, a popular dirt track that hosts races throughout the summer. Dad might also enjoy the annual Power From the Past which takes place July 16-19. It’s the perfect place to see vintage tractors and equipment.
Cyclists will enjoy Moon Over the Tippy, an up-to-20-mile evening bike ride happening on Friday, June 5. Then the very next day the farmers market will open for the season. Bring the whole family to shop for fresh produce, baked items and locally produced hand-made pieces. Schedule your visit for Aug. 15-16 and you’ll be here when the Medaryville Potato Fest gets underway. Festivities will include food, music, vendors and every possible way to celebrate the community’s potato-farming heritage.

Once you’ve worn out the guest of honor, there are plenty of places to treat him to a lunch or dinner. Cruizers Family Diner will serve up home-cooked favorites and lots of good pies. Tippy’s is a locally loved pizza and beer spot, and One-Eyed Jack’s offers a selection of 100 beers to enjoy with signature tenderloin sandwiches. Next morning meet up at Mina’s Café for protein shakes, healthy eats and good coffee before you start the drive home.
