Looking for something to do now that the warm weather has finally arrived and summer evenings are full of promise? Why not cruise — literally! — on over to Whiting, where something fun is always going on.
One of the events that spans the entire season is Whiting’s Cruise Nights, which bring together owners of cars older than 2000 and anyone else who wants to take part every third Wednesday until October. Each month has a theme, and music, a vendor pop-up market and raffles add to the draw.

Another summer-long event is the Summer Concert Series, which takes place at the Sheridan Concert Plaza most Fridays between June and September. Summer With the Symphony at Whiting Lakefront Park runs from July to September with fireworks on Labor Day.
Baseball games will be on deck at Oil City Stadium, and you’ll want to head to Whihala Beach and its Whoa Zone to splash and cool down on hot summer afternoons.
May is “Paint the Town Pink” month, a time to bring awareness to and show support for those who are dealing with breast cancer. Businesses and organizations hold special events, and throughout the month you can stop by Studio 659 to vote for your favorite decorated bra.

Not to miss is Garage Mahul, a citywide garage and yard sale that will take place the weekend of May 16 and 17. The city will round out the month with its Memorial Day parade and ceremony on the 25th.
Jeeps will take over downtown on June 4, when the Junkyard T-Shirt Shop sponsors Jeep Night and provides giveaways, games and good fun. Then June 20 is the day to gather at the Sheridan Plaza to rally around our LGBTQ+ neighbors with music, food and family-friendly happenings. Say happy 250th birthday to the country with fireworks on July 3 and a parade on the fourth. Then the annual Pierogi Fest will be open July 24 to 26. This is when locals and visitors, Polish or not, can celebrate their heritage with food, entertainment and a wacky parade unlike any other.
