Cass County knows how to open the holiday season! The day after Thanksgiving the Light Up Logansport Parade will roll through town, with floats, lights and sweet treats galore. The sparkle continues with the lighting of the new tree downtown. Then it’s time to take in a free movie at the historic State Theatre ½ a block away.
Colorful lights will be on from Nov. 25 through New Year’s weekend at Christmas in the Park. This is when Spencer Park turns into a winter wonderland with lighted displays that have expanded throughout its nine years.
Walk or ride through to enjoy a gingerbread house, lighted trees and the 12 days of Christmas along with a Christmas train, a depiction of the Indiana-Purdue rivalry and a new wreath on the Eel River Shelter. While you’re in the car, take a cruise around the county to see the dozens of homes that decorate for the season.
You’ll find plenty of gift ideas while you’re here. The Nest offers home décor, seasonal decorations, cookbooks, and other unusual and meaningful items. Sage n’ Tonic has soaps, oils and candles to help soothe yourself during this busy time of year.
The Record Farm is where to look for your music-loving recipients. Another option is Science Project to sample a tasty craft beer and pizzas that have scientific names. Or try Bruno’s Pizza, where three generations have been serving up savory pies made with fresh ingredients since 1960. The Boardwalk Café also has quick bites — pizza, sandwiches, nachos and more.
When the shopping is done, treat the entire family to “The One and Only Santa Claus,” presented by the Logansport Junior Civic Theater at two performances on Dec. 20 at the State Theatre. Then it’s almost time for the big day to arrive.
