Art isn’t confined to gallery walls. It’s shaped by hand, fired in a kiln, blown from molten glass, celebrated on downtown streets, and woven into the places that make a community unique.
You can start your creative journey in Muncie & Delaware County at Made in Muncie Pottery, where visitors can roll up their sleeves and become artists themselves. Paint pottery, try your hand at the wheel, or join a workshop. The experience is less about perfection and more about discovery. Every visitor leaves with something uniquely their own.
In downtown, Gordy Fine Art & Framing showcases the creativity that continues to define Muncie’s cultural landscape. Rotating exhibitions feature artists from across East Central Indiana, while monthly First Thursday celebrations invite visitors to experience downtown’s vibrant arts scene through galleries, live music, and community gatherings. Local talent and artistic expression are always on display.
Just a few minutes away, Ball State University offers visitors a deeper look at art across centuries and mediums. The David Owsley Museum of Art houses an impressive collection of more than 11,000 works representing 5,000 years of civilization. Free admission makes it an easy addition to any itinerary. Nearby, the Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass provides a rare opportunity to watch artists transform molten glass into works of art, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative process.
Beyond these destinations, public art has transformed everyday spaces into places of inspiration. Eight large-scale public art installations now invite residents and visitors to engage with creativity in unexpected ways. These works have reimagined how public art can connect people to place while celebrating the community’s vision for the future.
To help visitors experience them all, Destination: Muncie and Muncie Arts & Culture Council have teamed up to create the Art for the People Mobile Passport. The self-guided adventure encourages exploration of each installation while uncovering neighborhoods, businesses, and stories along the way.
